leucomelas (Pers.) Kuntze syn. Acetabula vulgaris Fuckel Brauner Rippenbecherling Acétabule vulgaire Paxina. Cup 2–4cm across, deeply cup-shaped but splitting at the margin, inner surface dark greyish brown, outer pale grey to buff and finely downy, not ribbed. Stem 5–15 x 10–15mm, whitish, ribbed, with ribs extending to base of cup. Asci 400 x 20µ. Spores broadly elliptic, 18–22 x 12–14µ. Habitat woodlands and heaths. Season spring to early autumn. Uncommon. Poisonous unless well cooked. Distribution, America and Europe.
